Our Authentic Italian
Plasters have been "green" for 2,000 years, and even the pigments
used for tinting are all-natural minerals. They contain no synthetic
binders or additives as found in most domestic plasters that emit
harmful vapors like formaldehyde. These pure slaked lime plasters
take 24 months to make using an all-natural process engineered by the
Romans 2,000 years ago.
Lime plasters were
perfected by the Romans (who improved on the process handed down to them
by the Sumerians) by introducing the slaking process. After the
limestone blocks were cooked with intense heat, the resulting powder was
placed into large urns which were buried underground near rivers,
allowing water to seep into the lime powder to form an inert putty.
This is very similar to the slaking method still used today, which takes
18-24 months.
We use imported earth
minerals which are mixed into the pure slaked lime plaster to create a "custom"
color and finish for our clients. These pure slaked lime plasters expel
moisture and inhibit mold and mildew. The remarkably durable
and beautiful surfaces actually "breathe".
Lime plasters are
available for exterior and interior uses. Once dry, the lime
plaster returns to its original stone composition and can last for
hundreds of years. The colors are fully integrated into the
plaster so they age gracefully without streaking or weeping often seen
from cement stuccoes.
LEED Points
Projects may qualify
for 1 to 4 points when our products are specified. One point is earned
with EQ credit 4.2 Low-Emitting Materials (Paints and Coatings). This
point allows for new construction or renovation. Up to 4 points may be
earned if Low-Emitting Materials are used in combination with certain
other materials or for use in marketing the project as outlined by LEED
certification. Your contractor, architect or design professional
can submit the appropriate LEED document(s). For complete LEED
details, visit http://www.usgbc.org
